Delivery

2 min readUpdated April 2026

Delivery refers to the technical process of transmitting music files, artwork, and metadata from an aggregator or label to Digital Service Providers (DSPs) for release.

Delivery is the crucial final step in the digital supply chain before a song becomes available to the public. It involves packaging the high-quality audio files (often WAV or FLAC), the cover art (usually a high-resolution JPEG or PNG), and the comprehensive metadata (including track titles, artist names, ISRCs, and songwriter credits) into a specific format required by each DSP. This format is often based on industry standards like DDEX (Digital Data Exchange).

The delivery process must be precise. If metadata is incorrect or files are formatted improperly, DSPs may reject the release, causing delays or resulting in the music appearing incorrectly on the platform (e.g., under the wrong artist profile). Aggregators and distributors handle the complexities of delivery, ensuring that the strict technical specifications of platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon are met, and that the release goes live on the scheduled Release Date.

Imagine preparing a physical product for shipment; it needs the right packaging, the correct address, and a detailed manifest. Digital delivery is the equivalent for music. A flawless delivery ensures that when a fan searches for your new single on release day, it's there, looking and sounding exactly as intended.

melabel simplifies the Delivery process by ensuring all your Music Files and Metadata are correctly formatted and organized within your Projects before they are sent to DSPs, minimizing the risk of rejection and ensuring a smooth rollout.
